City and Hill District Water Works.

Proposed Additional Service Reservoir, &c., West Point.

1.

Until recent years, the western district of

the City has been supplied with water from Pokfulam Reservoir, whilst the central and eastern districts have been supplied from Tytam. As the supply from Pokfulam was more favourably situated than that from Tytam for being made available for distribution to the Upper Levels of the City and to the Hill District, it has formed the main source for the supply of these districts, the necessary pumping plant and rising mains being arranged according- -ly.

2.

Owing to the extensions which have occurred in the Upper Levels and Hill District, it has become necessary to reserve the contents of Pokfulam Reservoir in great measure for these men areas and consequently Tytan water has now to be utilized to a large extent for the Western District. The main service reservoir for the distribution of Tytam Water, which was constructed 24 years ago, is conveniently situated for the supply of the Central and Eastern Districts of the City (vide enclosed plan) and is adequate for the supply of these areas but it is not possible to serve the Testern District from it also in a satis-

-factory manner.

3.

During the period of 24 years which has elapse since the construction of the Tytan works, the consumption of

water in the City and Hill District has increased from 2 to 6

million gallons per day under conditions of constant supply. Various additions have been made to the Water Works during that

period and further extensions are now urgently required.

4.

To ensure the distribution of Tytan water to

the Western District of the City, it is proposed to construct a

service reservoir capable of containing about 5 million gallons

on the site indicated on the enclosed plan.
